This presentation was made at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) 11th Session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) in May 2008. As the civil society representative at the CSTD, Parminder Jeet Singh spoke on the need for policy to ensure the forces of creativity and productivity that have been unleashed and to bring equity and social justice in the emerging information society. The theme of the session was 'Development-oriented policies for a socio-economic inclusive information society, including access, infrastructure and an enabling environment'.
