This workshop was organised by the WSIS Gender Caucus, IT for Change, UNDP Asia Pacific Gender Mainstreaming Programme, UNDP Asia Pacific Development Information Programme in partnership with IDRC and UNIFEM South Asia on 31st October 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was focused on gender in the information society, connecting it to the broader debates on global policy negotiations and global governance and how gender plays out in these debates. It was geared towards taking stock of the complex relationship between gender and ICTs, learning from experiences in different parts of the Asia Pacific. It has also critically evaluated how global forums such as the World Summit on the Information Society have framed issues related to gender and ICTs. The workshop, we hope, has created a space for wider participation of women in debates centered on the information society.
Presentations A 15-minute film produced by IT for Change titled "Gender Perspectives on the Information Society - Voices from South Asia" was also screened during the session. |
