empirical link between gender diversity in the scientific workforce and research outcomes. Our findings show a symbiotic relationship between increasing the numbers of women in academic medicine and enhancing excellence in research by incorporating gender
and sex analysis. Hence, our study provides empirical evidence for science policy makers to promote both women’s scientific careers and gender and sex analysis in research design. Taken together these objectives support the twin goals of diversity and excellence
in science. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
