The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has initiated policy making on "ICTs in school education". The policy making process is being conducted in an non-transparent manner with significant role given to private agencies with little experience and expertise in Indian education system, with committed ideologies of greater privatization of education, and close relationships with big corporations that see ICT policy for schools as a major opportunity for advancing their business interests. The Indian 'school ICT market' is estimated in excess of 40,000 crores, and serve as an important ground to set default technology standards on which technology monopolies thrive, and hence vulnerable to severe pressures from big businesses. ICTs are being used in a variety of areas to promote a direct role for businessin policy making under the guise of 'technological expertise' and 'public private partnerships' and this policy making is a blatant example of the same.
