Program Associate for managing a project on building Teachers' Communities of Learning (Knowledge of Kannada is essential for this position) Last Date: *30th March, 2010 Location: *Bangalore, India Job Profile: ITfC is looking for a Program Associate to work on a pioneering pilot project to develop a 'community of learning' amongst teachers from some government schools in Bangalore . The goal of the program is to address the professional development needs of teachers in mainstream government schools, by developing professional networks that can sustain peer learning and resource support opportunities in many different ways. The network would also engage with curriculum design and development, keeping in mind local contexts in Bangalore schools and establish larger links with other networks / communities of teachers and teacher educators in Karnataka and outside, both in schools and institutions of higher education. In the current context, due to a variety of reasons, teachers have limited opportunities to seek out avenues of learning of their own interest. Schools can become 'silos' in the absence of linkages amongst schools within a local geography as well as across geographies. The hypothesis of this pilot is that appropriately conceptualized and designed linkages amongst teachers and schools can strengthen the quality of the learning processes and outcomes in government schools through supporting teacher professional development and their agency . The pilot aims to build complementing physical (workshops and school based interactions) and virtual (email lists, blogs, wikis etc) linkages amongst the teachers over a period of one year.
