LOCAL GOVERNANCE

Prakriye works with 10 Gram Panchayats (village-level local government bodies) in Hunsur and H.D.Kote blocks of Mysore, to strengthen their commitment to gender-responsive and inclusive local governance. We have revitalised Mahila Gram Sabhas (women-only village assemblies)to promote open dialogue between women's collectives and elected women representatives, for effectively bringing in women's individual and collective needs and priorities into local governance processes. We have also supported Panchayats in using GIS-enabled social audits and mobile info-outreach, as part of enhancing their accountability. We commenced this line of work in 2013, under the UN Women-supported project Making Women's Voices and Votes Count.
