IT for Change is recruiting for an ambitious project that will work with high school girls in Bengaluru. The project seeks to deploy digital technologies for intensive, hands-on activities with groups of girls and school-wide workshops and teacher trainings, in government and aided schools. Over 3 years, we hope to make a dent in the way multiple cohorts of girl students experience their sense of self and exercise their agency, questioning disempowering ideologies and practices. We also wish to bring about systemic change in the school context so that the educational environment is able to recognise and address the routine cultures that prevent girls from actualising their potential. The idea is to build a STEM project for girls, with a difference - focusing on digital artefacts, tech labs and gender labs, to catalyse a feminist consciousness in curricular and co-curricular pursuits.

Project Leader
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka

The Project Leader will manage the overall design, progress and strategic directions of the project, combining techno-elements creatively. She will be responsible for authoring reports and policy briefs to disseminate the model. She will mentor team members and execute training sessions with a range of stakeholders, from students to teachers. She will be the primary interface with the school system, maintaining rapport and creating the space for sustained interactions with girls. She will shepherd the project through various big and small events, leading up to 3 years of a multi-layered capacity building for the school system. She will marshal necessary support from media, local bureaucracy and the funding ecosystem to help institutionalise the model.

The Project Leader will be a mid-career professional, fluent in English and Kannada, with demonstrated experience as a trainer-educator and high degree of comfort in using a basic set of digital tools - office suite, mobile apps, basic design software etc. She will also have a Masters degree in a related field.

The position requires proficiency in designing modules and training curricula for participatory gender transformative change in group and institutional contexts. It calls for leadership in carrying various stakeholders along for effectively achieving project goals.

The position will entail local travel to different schools in Bengaluru South. Female candidates will be preferred for the position.

Project Associate
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka

The Project Associate will support the Project Leader in achieving the goals of the project, working on the everyday implementation and documentation. She will mobilise and interface with various communities – students, teachers, parents –  using appropriate digital methods. She will also network across various core constituencies of the project.

The Project Associate will be an early to mid-career professional, fluent in English and Kannada (at least, spoken Kannada). The candidate needs to be passionate about empowerment of girls and very comfortable in using a basic set of digital tools - office suite, mobile apps, basic design software etc. She will have demonstrated experience in designing creative educational resources and processes. We are looking to select candidates who have a mix of skill sets in education, media and technology, gender, participatory group work and design. Expertise in graphic arts, comics, design thinking, pop art, video etc. will be an advantage.

The position will entail local travel to different schools in Bengaluru South. Female candidates will be preferred for the position.

Project Tech Associate
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka

The Project Tech Associate will be an early career professional, fluent in English and Kannada (at least, spoken). She will have a keen interest in feminist approaches to digital technology and in the empowerment of girls. She will have expertise in coding and demonstrated experience in team work. Experience in creating educational products will be an advantage. The candidate should also be able to customise and run/ maintain the back end of virtual platforms and explore the necessary digital tools for building apps to suit the project. Interest in conducting training sessions for girls and teachers is important.

3. Deep understanding of and interest in education and Indian social contexts
4. People skills and ability to work with a team are essential.
5. The place of work will be Bengaluru, with occasional travel across Karnataka and India.
6. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and would not be a constraint for the right candidate. It would be minimum of Rs. 25,000 for Program Associate and minimum of Rs.15,000 for Program Assistant – Education. Project Assistant - IT

Experience: 0 to 2 years
Education Qualification: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field. Diploma – Computer Science/ Information Science. Hardware training certifications will also be considered.

Job Profile:
1. Conducting training programs for teachers in schools as well as government and non-government officials in using and deploying different software applications, including educational applications.
2. Visit schools regularly to support the team running programs smoothly and support teacher on hardware and software installation.
3. Installing, configuring, using and troubleshooting different software applications. We work with a wide variety of software applications in different areas, including Desktop publishing, multimedia, website management, apart from operating system, office suite etc.
4. Providing technical support to schools and other institutions in using different free software applications.
5. Configuration and maintenance the Internet, network LAN WAN in office and in other workshop places.
6. Customizing GNU/Linux operating system as per users requirements.

Experience and Skills:
1. 0-2 years in similar job providing support
2. Candidates willing to travel around Karnataka/Jaipur and around India.
3. Fluency in Kannada  and English – reading and writing. Reasonable fluency in speaking Hindi
4. Candidate need to gave some knowledge about Linux and Other FOSS tools.
5. Candidate need to have interest on training teachers on FOSS tools.

Research Associate 

IT for Change is looking for early career researchers to work on two exciting projects - on national
frameworks for data governance, that includes data protection and privacy, but extends to other
areas such as data value and ownership, community /public/ private data etc., and on gender-based
hate speech.

The projects will produce a cutting-edge body of knowledge to chart the future directions for
governance in relation to the complex ecosystem of actors in the digital age. We are building a team
that can bring legal, sociological, technological, and developmental insights to undertake legal
review, policy analysis, feminist critique, case studies of approaches and emerging models in other
parts of the world etc.

We are looking for early career researchers with a Masters degree in Law and expertise in
technology governance and data policy debates and a passion for progressive social change. The
role involves independent research and writing, including media pieces; participation in
collaborative knowledge production to support senior team members; organising round tables/
workshops; and representing IT for Change’s policy positions in key global and national forums.
The position will be based in Bengaluru, though frequent travel will be involved.
