Program Assistant - Education (M&E)

Job Profile:

  1. Conducting preliminary research on available data from government databases/documents and other sources.
  2. Understanding trends and developing monitoring and evaluation tools.
  3. Coordinating and undertaking needs assessments, baseline-endline surveys, impact studies, etc.
  4. Setting up simple systems to manage information/data generated through the M&E activities.
  5. Interpreting data, analyzing results and trends using statistical techniques where appropriate and documenting the findings.
  6. Generating high quality formal analytical reports on key program delivery outcomes as per defined calendar.

Preferred Educational Background:
MA in Education/Development/ B.Ed or degree in a related field of study.

Experience and Skills:

  1. 2-3 years of relevant work experience in M&E/data analytics/data visualization/ data management and research is preferred. Demonstrated analytical and assessment skills of quantitative and qualitative data.
  2. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in working with spreadsheets is required, especially in visualization.
  3. Strong skills in data analysis and reporting. Knowledge of statistical analysis software would be a bonus.
  4. Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English. Proficiency in Kannada is useful.
  5. Keenness to explore new processes and technologies.
  6. Deep understanding of and interest in education and Indian social contexts.

What We’re Looking for

IT for Change is expanding its senior research and management team. We would like to welcome entrepreneurial individuals who would like to be part of a dynamic NGO that works towards social change. The incoming candidate will be part of shaping the organizational trajectory for the coming years, lead a track, and take on the broader challenge of institution building with the core leadership team. Specifically, they should be able to helm a role of intellectual leadership by developing and taking point on these tracks, effectively leading research and policy advocacy initiatives, and supervising an interdisciplinary team towards implementation and execution.

We are looking to recruit for 3 track leads:

Track 1 - Social media governance, the public sphere, and democracy
Track 2 - Regenerative AI: Governing data and AI for global economic justice
Track 3 - Digital infrastructures and their intersection with development domains such as health, agriculture, urban governance, etc.

The ideal candidates should have:

•    10+ years of experience in policy research on development, economic justice, and human rights issues, with at least 5+ years’ experience on digital issues.
•    Expertise in the political economy of the digital – market concentration and corporate power, geo-politics and geo-economics of digitalization, democracy and the public sphere, the sociologies of innovation, international governance challenges and pathways, alternative AI models, etc.
•    A track record of robust and critical understanding of a broad range of debates and issues with respect to technology governance
•    Skills relevant to research methods in the digital domain
•    Excellent writing skills and ability to author accessible pieces in a short turnaround
•    Keen interest in change processes, including providing knowledge support for civil society organizations, policymakers, and multilateral discussions
•    Demonstrated experience in guiding teams, mentoring younger researchers, working in trans-disciplinary environments, and independently leading projects from conception to change-making
•    Appreciation of the nature of the NGO environment, and demonstrated leadership skills in navigating complexity

Roles and Responsibilities

As part of the senior leadership, the candidate will be expected to provide managerial leadership across flagship organizational projects, undertake substantive research and advocacy, and contribute to management decision-making processes. Specific responsibilities include:

Narrative Consultant - Storytelling & Field Research (Mysore)

IT for Change’s field unit, Prakriye, is looking for a highly motivated Narrative Consultant to join our team in Mysore for a 7-day short-term consultancy contract focused on qualitative story documentation. We aim to assess the extent to which our programs have influenced attitude shifts in gender and raised awareness about gender-based violence and the redressals available to women. Our goal is to capture stories of change and qualitative shifts in perception at both the individual and collective levels.

This is for a project to build a supportive community ecosystem for prevention and redress of all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls, and enabling their access to justice in rural villages in Mysore. The Narrative Consultant will play a key role in crafting compelling stories of impact based on qualitative data collected in the field. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in impactful storytelling and experience with on-field research with the ability to conduct on-site data collection, offer insightful analysis, and produce clear, culturally sensitive writing. A strong grasp of Kannada is a must. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of existing documentation materials to identify and extract relevant narratives and process documentation of field interactions and events.
  • Develop publication-ready outputs that are clear, engaging, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to ensure the documented stories accurately reflect project impact.

This is for our inclusive platform models track, through which we examine the future-of-work question for social enterprises, farmers, informal workers, etc. The ideal candidate will have experience with published research, a flair for writing (academic and non-academic), comfort with working in interdisciplinary teams, and a political economy orientation towards understanding issues of gender in the digital economy.

  • We are looking for a Communications Associate to contribute strategically to our organization's external communication initiatives and internal knowledge management processes. We are seeking a dynamic Communications Associate/Assistant to join our communication team, contributing to the organization's external communications activities and internal knowledge management processes. Research Intern

Location: Bengaluru

We are looking for a research intern based out of Bengaluru to work with us on a research project on labour and platform cooperatives for a period of 6 weeks, starting immediately. This is a paid opportunity. 

Role and Responsibilities:

1. Translate one interview questionnaire from English to Kannada.

2. Conduct in-depth interviews with 50 Kannada speaking women working in the beauty and salon sector 3. Translate and transcribe all interviews verbatim, from Kannada to English.

Skills and Experience of the Candidate:

1.Bachelors or Masters degree in a social sciences discipline e.g. labor relations, economics, sociology, anthropology, literature, and other related streams (we invite applications from candidates currently pursuing their degrees as well).

  • Design and conduct professional development programs for school teachers and teacher-educators, as part of IT for Change’s education team.
  • Visit schools regularly to assist teachers in integrating new pedagogies in the classroom. This will involve developing lesson plans, transacting, and documentation.
  • Explore ICT integration in Mathematics and language teaching, including educational software tools.
  • Contribute to building subject-teacher networks within districts and across the state of Karnataka and other states in India.

This track focuses on questions of labor, gender, data, and technology in the digital economy with a focus on economic and social policy. Changing macroeconomic conditions, labor market dynamics, gender relations, and gender-responsive governance of data and the digital economy are the core areas of inquiries in this track. Expertise in macro-economic policy, labor, and gender, and handling of quantitative data is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will lead and support research on cutting-edge themes within the pertinent track, undertake socio-economic and legal analysis and engage actively in national and global policy processes.

Primary responsibilities include:

- Steering policy and legal research addressing social justice and equity with respect to the pertinent track.

    • Prepare organizational and project budgets, monitor expenses with respect to budgets, and perform variance analysis and cost control

Qualification and experience

  • The candidate should have completed Inter CA
  • The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting. Candidates having experience in handling audits/ accounts and administration of medium-sized organizations would be preferred

Just Net Coalition (JNC) is a global network of civil society actors committed to an open, free, just and equitable Internet. Founded in February 2014, the coalition engages on topics of the internet and its governance, with the goal to promote democracy, human rights, and social justice. IT for Change serves as the secretariat of JNC. 

JNC, through its coalition members and allies, is currently engaged in a process of driving systematic development of digital governance perspectives in key sectors of development. Through deliberations and dialogue among civil society organizations and a bottom-up processes to map the key priorities for digital governance, we are working to shape our global advocacy agenda for the mid-term. 

We seek an Advocacy Associate to help steer this process by leading the community/coalition-building efforts of JNC with stakeholders in the digital justice space. The involves coordinating the global advocacy and research activities of the coalition, as well as taking on the challenge of scouting for and initiating new networking arenas and opportunities, widening the impact of the coalition’s work, and forging meaningful collaborations with diverse stakeholders. 

This is a high-energy job and the ideal applicant must demonstrate persuasive communication and people skills, proactive thinking, and the ability to thrive and excel in situations and contexts that are out of their comfort zone.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with stakeholders from current networks and reaching out to new constituencies for networking and alliance-building opportunities.

Tech Policy Researcher

IT for Change is looking to recruit policy researchers with a technical background for its research and policy advocacy. We are looking for a candidate with a robust understanding of technology governance debates, especially the design and development of inclusive and accountable data and AI systems that further social policy objectives.

The Tech Policy Researcher will play an active role in two tracks:

  • Intelligent Infrastructures - Focusing on policy debates about platform, data, and AI governance in relation to emerging digital infrastructures underpinning the economy, society, and public administration.
  • Alternative Platform Models - Focusing on design and policy directions – techno-institutional norms, principles, and pathways – for non-extractivist platform infrastructures.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing research support on tech-design and regulation of digital infrastructures for research reports, blogs, advocacy statements, and organizational interventions in policy spaces.
  • Supporting the organization’s ongoing efforts with government agencies to develop innovative platform and data architectures for livelihood programs and social security schemes.
  • Writing explainers, policy briefs, and media pieces demystifying topical data and AI policy developments for civil society constituencies.

This track will focus on issues of freedom of expression, privacy, and traditional digital rights issues. Expertise in social media governance (with a focus on hate speech) and familiarity with the international human rights frameworks is desirable.

The ideal candidate will lead and support research on cutting-edge themes within the pertinent track, undertake socio-economic and legal analysis and engage actively in national and global policy processes.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Steering policy and legal research addressing social justice and equity with respect to the pertinent track.
  • Inputting into and supporting policy consultations and other national and global advocacy opportunities in the domain to influence norms development.
