Project Associate- Information Technology

Job Profile:

1. Designing and conducting (in-person & virtual) technology training programs for teachers and teacher educators across different colleges, schools as well as government and non-government officials for
using and deploying different software applications, including educational applications.
2. Coordinating with teachers, teacher educators on ICT – Integrated programs at schools/colleges.
3. Visiting schools/colleges regularly to support the team to run ICT integrated programs smoothly and support teachers teacher educators to hardware and software installation at partner institutions.
4. Training teachers/teacher educators to create digital resources using different mobile and computer-based FOSS applications.
5. Helping resources creators to create and upload digital resources on OER repositories like Moodle, WordPress, and MediaWiki based platforms
6. Developing Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) applications user manuals, video tutorials, and other
resources that will help learners to learn digital tools and adopt in their learning process.
7. Exploring and training on mobile-based and computer-based digital technologies to help teachers to use them in their teaching and learning process.
8. Installing, configuring, using, and troubleshooting different software applications. We work with a wide
variety of software applications in different areas, including Desktop publishing, resources creation
applications, multimedia (audio and video editing), website management, apart from the operating system,
office suite etc.
9. Providing technical support to the organization in using different free software applications. Include exploring and training in different Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) applications as projects required.
10. Configuration and maintenance of the Internet, network LAN, WAN in office, and in other workshop places.
11. Customising and testing Linux-based Operating Systems (OS) as per the user's requirements. We customize and distribute FOSS operating systems as per the organization and project requirements.
12. Developing/customizing/maintaining websites using Drupal, WordPress, Moodle, and MediaWiki software to build and maintain websites.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. A BSC, BCA, BE, B Tech, Diploma (in Computer Science) or
any other graduate candidate who have the mentioned skills can also apply:

Desired Skills & Qualities
1. Should know different webinar platforms to conduct training for teachers, teacher educators and students.
2. Needs to have some knowledge about Linux or any other Open-source FOSS OS and tools.
3. Must be fluent in English and Kannada. Additionally, reasonable fluency in speaking
Hindi and good communication skills are a plus.
4. Is willing to travel around Karnataka and around India when required.
5. Candidate needs to have the interest to give training on different FOSS tools to the teachers, teacher
educators (include school students).
6. Willingness to learn new FOSS technologies and tools and train others.
7. Working knowledge of the installation of computer hardware/software.
8. Age preference between 24 and 30 years.

Location:
The place of work will be Bengaluru, Karnataka with occasional travel across different places in Karnataka and India.

Consultants for Impact Assessment

IT for Change’s Mysuru based field center Prakriye has been running the Namma Maathu, Namma Jaaga (Our Space, Our Discourse) program to tackle gender-based violence in 37 villages of HD Kote, Sargur, and Hunsur blocks.The core objectives of the program include building a responsive non-judgmental redressal system, making local information accessible through information centers, and using techno-pedagogies to build critical feminist perspectives among stakeholders, all of which will help women challenge the normalization of gender-based violence.

We, at IT for Change would like to conduct an internal impact assessment of the program to examine its reach, relevance & usefulness, the effectiveness of our training and monitoring strategies, and the extent to which the programs have been able to influence attitude shifts in gender at a community level.

Senior Communications Associate

Location: Bengaluru

We are looking for a Senior Communications Associate to provide strategic guidance to, and play an active role in, the organization's external communications activities and internal knowledge processes. The ideal candidate must have a keen interest in the issues of digital and data rights and development justice, and should be able to translate organizational research into accessible material for public consumption. The Senior Communications Associate will work on how to make our vision, mission, and work resonate with a variety of audiences, and take the lead in driving and implementing our communications strategy.

Primary responsibilities:
- Developing and executing creative and high-impact visibility, dissemination and communication strategies for the organization’s active projects, networking, and advocacy efforts.
- Guiding the organization’s regular public-facing dissemination, including newsletters and social media strategy, for maximizing impact.
- Reviewing, editing and harmonizing all public-facing content of the organization, including website/s, funder correspondence, concept notes, and reports.
- Supporting the editorial, production, dissemination, and audience aspects of Bot Populi, an online magazine, started by 7 international organizations including IT for Change.
- Overseeing the development and design of research and advocacy materials in house, using graphic design software.
- Supervising, monitoring, and managing the organization’s communication team and ensuring that the strategic vision and goals, annual plans, routine tasks are well understood.

Advocacy & Networking Associate – Just Net Coalition and IT for Change

About Just Net Coalition (JNC)

Just Net Coalition (JNC) is a global network of civil society actors committed to an open, free, just and equitable Internet. Founded in February 2014, the coalition engages on topics of the internet and its governance, with the goal to promote democracy, human rights, and social justice. IT for Change serves as the secretariat of JNC. 

JNC, through its coalition members and allies, is currently engaged in a process of driving systematic development of digital governance perspectives in key sectors of development. Through deliberations and dialogue among civil society organizations and a bottom-up processes to map the key priorities for digital governance, we are working to shape our global advocacy agenda for the mid-term. 

We seek an Advocacy and Networking Associate to help steer this process by leading the community/coalition building efforts of JNC with stakeholders in the digital justice space. The involves coordinating the global advocacy and research activities of the coalition, as well as taking on the challenge of scouting for and initiating new networking arenas and opportunities, widening the impact of the coalition’s work, and forging meaningful collaborations with diverse stakeholders. 

This is a high energy job and the ideal applicant must demonstrate persuasive communication and people skills, proactive thinking, and the ability to thrive and excel in situations and contexts that are out of their comfort zone.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with stakeholders from current networks and reaching out to new constituencies for networking and alliance-building opportunities.

Policy Researchers

Location: Bengaluru

We are looking for legal/policy researchers for our research tracks on:

1. Digital Rights – This track will focus on issues of freedom of expression, privacy and traditional digital rights issues. Expertise in social media governance (with a focus on hate speech) and familiarity with the international human rights frameworks is desirable.
 
2. Data Economy – This track will focus on forward-looking laws and policies on the economic governance of data and Big Tech regulation. Expertise in competition law and international trade and IP regimes is desirable.

Applicants for both positions should have a strong grounding in the political economy of digital technologies, with an agile handle on the rapidly unfolding policy developments in the relevant track and engage with new thinking in the domain as a thinker-activist.

The ideal candidate will lead and support research on cutting edge themes within the pertinent track, undertake socio-legal analysis and engage actively in national and global policy processes.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Steering policy and legal research addressing social justice and equity with respect to the pertinent track.
  • Inputting into and supporting policy consultations and other national and global advocacy opportunities in the domain to influence norms development.
  • Assisting with organizing sessions and attending/presenting at national and international advocacy events.
  • Developing written outputs from research initiatives, including reports, academic articles, media pieces and explainers.
  • Supporting organizational grant development and collaboration and M&E activities of projects.

Associate – Feminist Digital Justice

Location: Not a constraint. Remote position.

Through our collaboration with the Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) network on Feminist Digital Justice, IT for Change is setting up a new project to engage with feminist organizations and networks across the globe. This project will expand the conversation on gender justice in the digital economy and society, and intensify policy engagement at multilateral, regional, and national levels.
We are looking for someone to support the network building, event organizing, policy research, and campaign activities that we will initiate as part of this line of work. This is a contract-based position for an initial period of one year, and may be extendable.
The ideal applicant will be a mid-career professional with a strong interest in the areas of feminist political economy analysis, digital technologies, data and development, and demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following – governance of TNCs, trade justice, digital justice, changing nature of the state, and transnational social movements. They should bring to the job, a high degree of independent drive as well as display comfort with team work and agility working in an asynchronous and remote arrangement along with colleagues.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the team at IT for Change and DAWN in implementing various activities in research, advocacy, and field-building, including virtual roundtables and policy webinars.
  • Closely tracking and monitoring global and regional developments that have a bearing on gender justice in the digital economy (Big Tech excesses, global digital cooperation mechanisms, gender and digital policy intersections, feminist future of work debates, and so on).
  • Writing high-quality blogs and editorials on a fortnightly/monthly basis and working closely with Bot Populi, our online magazine on digital justice.
  • Driving dissemination and outreach activities via e-lists and periodic newsletters and collaborating on global campaigns and events organized by platforms that IT for Change engages with, including the Just Net Coalition.

The role involves coordinating and galvanizing the many local and global advocacy and research networks of the organization, as well as taking on the challenge of scouting for and initiating new networking arenas and opportunities, widening the impact of our work, and forging meaningful collaborations with diverse stakeholders. This is a high energy job towards which the ideal applicant will measure up by demonstrating persuasive communication and people skills, proactive thinking, and the ability to thrive and excel in situations and contexts that are out of their comfort zone.

Primary responsibilities:

Program Associate (H2HD)

We are looking for a program associate to work with our education team on the adolescent girls empowerment project, Hosa Hejje Hosa Dishe (New Steps in a New Direction). The ideal candidate should be able to collaborate with schools on the project, facilitate sessions, and create digital and non-digital resources that can be used as part of the project. S/he should be a team player and be able to work with minimum supervision.

About the Hosa Hejje Hosa Dishe (H2HD) program
This is an empowerment program for adolescent girls, aimed at supporting them during this crucial passage into adulthood. As part of this project, IT for Change works with adolescent girls belonging in government and government-aided schools which cater to girls from marginalised families. The project seeks to disrupt the status quo of gender dynamics and enable adolescent girls to develop and articulate aspirations for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Approach schools to collaborate on the project, and build and sustain the relationship.
  • Facilitate sessions on issues affecting adolescent girls.
  • Design writing modules based on the broader curriculum envisioned by IT for Change.
  • Create digital and non-digital resources required for each module.
  • Capture the learning and reflections from the project for dissemination on digital and non-digital platforms.
  • Keep abreast with all technological innovations that can be used as part of the project.
  • Plan logistics and strategies and work on scripting, ideation, etc.
  • Be on the lookout for NGOs working with adolescent girls to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Liaison with officials from state education department.
  • Research higher education options, vocational training institutes and livelihood options available for Kishoris.
  • Conduct residential camps for Kishoris.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Postgraduate degree in social work, sociology, women’s studies, gender studies, or development studies. Freshers are welcome to apply.
  • Written and oral proficiency in English and Kannada.
  • Interest in working on gender-related and development issues.
  • Experience in using technologies with ease and enthusiasm (however basic the skill level).
