UN Internet Governance Forum

Rising to the challenges of a global pandemic, the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be convened virtually this year from Nov 2 - 17, 2020.

Like every year, the IGF will bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals to discuss public policy issues about the Internet, aiming to facilitate a common understanding of how to maximize the promise of the Internet and address risks and challenges that arise from it.

Follow these instructions to register for IGF 2020 and get unique Zoom links to individual sessions.

IT for Change will be co-organizing three online sessions and participating in two others at UN IGF 2020.

1. The Digital Justice Conversations: A 3-part session

This session organized by IT for Change and Just Net Coalition will open with a panel discussion on Global Networking for Digital Justice in the New Age, offering insights into JNC’s evolving strategy. The launch of a compendium on a Digital New Deal will follow. Leading global scholars and activists will present their visions of digital technology that is democratically governed and committed to justice. It will conclude with reflections by Prof. Saskia Sassen and an open interaction.

2.Safe Digital Spaces, a dialogue on countering cyber-violence

Open Forum organized by the Web Foundation, UN Women and IT for Change

This open forum will inform and contribute to future multi-stakeholder consultative dialogues led by the Web Foundation and UN Women to develop concrete solutions to address online gender-based violence across platforms from a technological and policy perspective. It will also contribute to the development of the Generation Equality Action Coalition on Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality, to be launched in 2021.

3. Internet Commons Forum

Pre-event organized by FGV, ISOC, APC, Centrum Cyfrowe and Free2Air

The Internet Commons Forum (ICF) gathers thinkers and doers working towards a less concentrated and more just Internet. Participants will explore the facets of the #digitalcommons and discuss strategies their implementation. Parminder Jeet Singh from  IT for Change will be delivering a keynote on The Digital Intelligence Commons at this session.

4. How Do You Embed Trust and Confidence in AI?

Debate organized by Ansgar Koene, EY and Fatima Hassan, EY

Parminder Jeet Singh will be participating in this session which will debate questions regarding governance methods to providing citizens, organizations and governments with the means to assess the trustworthiness of AI systems. As AI is playing an increasingly vital role in the services that are provided over the internet, as well as running and maintaining the core infrastructure that the internet depends on, trust in the Internet is increasingly defined by trust in these AI systems.

5. Bridging the Data Divide — for Planet, People and Prosperity

Workshop organized by IT for Change

This session will follow an innovative problem-solution format with an opening and concluding round of lightning inputs from speakers interspersed with facilitated small group discussion among audience members.
