On 21 May 2025, the Centre for Communication Governance (CCG) at NLU Delhi, in partnership with Global Network Initiative and Global Partners Digital, convened a national multi-stakeholder roundtable to deliberate on India’s priorities for the upcoming WSIS+20 review in Geneva (July 2025).

The consultation brought together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, civil society, and the technical community to examine the future of global digital governance and India’s role in shaping a people-centric and inclusive digital order.

Anita Gurumurthy participated in the roundtable, contributing perspectives on structural inequalities in the global digital governance system and the need for stronger public-interest frameworks in the WSIS+20 process.

Key Discussion Points:

Update WSIS Action Lines to reflect contemporary digital realities

Balance multi-stakeholder and multilateral approaches for inclusive governance

Strengthen the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) with permanent status and sustainable funding

Reform WSIS modalities to ensure meaningful participation

Expand Action Lines to address emerging technologies like AI

Confront global power imbalances and corporate dominance in digital innovation

Protect information ecosystems from exploitation and harm

Promote alignment between the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and WSIS to prevent fragmentation

The roundtable contributed to shaping India’s input into global forums and advancing a vision of democratic and accountable digital governance.
