Parminder Jeet Singh has been invited to take part in a workshop on STI for SDGs Roadmap on October 11, organized by RIS and OPSA in New Delhi. Parminder will be speaking on the panel ‘Indian Perspectives on STI for SDGs’.
India has demonstrated a strong will to leverage Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for sustainable and inclusive development, and has played an important role in generating international support for STI for SDGs at the G20 and earlier at the UN. This approach was supported by Japan which led to the G20 Leaders adopting the Guiding Principles for the Development of STI Roadmaps for SDGs in 2019. The Global Pilot Programme on STI for SDG Roadmaps was launched in the same year with five pilot countries, viz. Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Serbia, and India. UN agencies like UN-DESA, UNIDO, UNESCO, World Bank etc., as well as the EU have supported the pilot countries in this exercise.
The Office of Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India (OPSA) is the nodal agency for developing India’s national STI for SDGs Roadmap along with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi as the knowledge partner. The experience gained under this initiative by pilot countries offers a valuable way forward for internationalizing the STI for SDGs Roadmaps and strengthening multilateral efforts.
The panel discussion on October 11 will discuss these issues in great detail. The discussion will begin at 5.30 PM IST at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. You can register for the session here.
