Parminder Jeet Singh has been invited to take part in a panel discussion, ‘The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF): What is in store for partner countries and India?’ on 27 January at 4.30 PM IST. The event is being held by TWN Trust India and Third World Network.

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) is a major initiative launched by the US in 2022 that involves 14 countries across the Pacific, including India. The IPEF seeks to set regulatory standards across its four pillars; trade, supply chains, decarbonization (environment) and anti-corruption. The IPEF is expected to extract major commitments from partner countries, including India. The full extent, depth, and nature of the commitments from partner countries are not yet clear but the negotiations are moving extremely fast and are expected to be concluded by the end of 2023. Following the first round of negotiations in Brisbane, the second round of negotiations is set to be held in New Delhi between 8-11 February.

This webinar aims to provide some information and analyses on IPEF and will include a technical briefing on the objective and substance of IPEF, followed by a panel discussion. The panel discussion will be focused primarily on India.

Besides Parminder, Biswajit Dhar, Professor, JNU; Indrajit Bose, Senior Researcher, Third World Network; and Abhijit Das, Former Head, Centre for WTO Studies will be taking part in the session. The discussion will be moderated by Ranja Sengupta, Senior Research and Head, TWN Trust.
