Anita Gurumurthy has been invited to take part in UN Trade Forum 2023, organized by UNCTAD on 8-9 May 2023. The Forum will be held in a hybrid format and those interested can tune in to the various sessions virtually.
Anita will be taking part in a session titled, ‘Gender gaps and digital solutions - Launch of UNCTAD Policy Review: E-commerce from a gender and development perspective’ on 9 May 2023 at 6.30 PM IST.
The potential of digital technologies for enhanced productivity and trade is limited by gender gaps in technology adoption and use. UNCTAD has explored the benefits as well as the challenges of e-commerce for women-led small enterprises in developing and least developed countries in its new policy review, ‘E-commerce from a gender and development perspective’.
During the launch of the publication at the panel discussion, the speakers will discuss the following issues:
- What are the desirable interventions to guarantee that the benefits of digital technologies are equally shared and are gender-inclusive?
- What kind of digital platforms are more adapted to women's business?
- Is there any similarity between the debate on trade and gender and the one of digitalization and gender?
- What are the promising initiatives in this field? What role should UNCTAD play?
Besides Anita, Sofia Boza Martinez, Ambassador, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Chile to the World Trade Organization (WTO); Trudi Hartzenberg, Executive Director, tralac; Christian Volpe Martincus, Principal Economist, Integration and Trade Sector, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); and Simonetta Zarrilli, Chief, Trade, Gender and Development Programme, DITC, UNCTAD will take part in the discussion. The session will be moderated by Caitlin Kraft-Buchman, Founder, Women at the Table.
