Anita Gurumurthy was invited by the Diplo Foundation to conduct a training session for UN Permanent Mission representatives on the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and digital governance from 11-15 December 2023.
During the event, Anita conducted three sessions:
1. Data governance: Between privacy protection and free data flows
Anita presented on the topic, ‘Framing the Data Governance Debate’, where she highlighted issues pertaining to cross-border data flows, the economic governance of data, and much more. View her presentation here.
2. Human rights in the digital space
What challenges do digital technologies bring to the exercise of human rights? How to address them in a (more) effective and efficient manner? Human-rights-based approach to the design and deployment of digital technologies: What does it mean? How to put it in practice? Anita tried to answer these questions during this session and her presentation can be viewed here.
3. Global Digital Commons
The questions pondered upon during this session pertained to: From open standards to open source and open content, what do we mean by digital commons? How to advance digital public goods to achieve the benefits of digital transformation, while not causing harm?
