Anita Gurumurthy was invited to speak at the international multistakeholder conference CONNECTing the Dots: Options for Future Action organised by UNESCO in Paris. The conference was held to discuss the first draft of the Comprehensive Study on Internet-related issues. The meeting proposed recommendations for responses to Internet-related issues in UNESCO’s fields of competence.
As the Internet sluices over the carefully constructed boundaries of the world, appropriate governance of virtual space is becoming critical. However, it is essential that such governance be fair to the citizen, particularly in terms of meaningful, empowering access. Anita speaks about arriving at the ethics of access at the conference. The ethics of access must be able to deal with specific injustices, while remaining open to all.
