The Residential Institute on Frontiers and Frames for a New Digitality 2025, organized by the School of Digital Justice at IT for Change with support from the Fair, Green, and Global Alliance, was held from March 4-9, 2025, at Prana Dewi Mountain Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Hosted in collaboration with the Samdhana Institute, the event convened a diverse cohort of Southern scholars, activists, and practitioners dedicated to advancing digital justice.
Over five days, participants engaged in lectures, group work, and interactive discussions, reflecting on key issues including AI and data governance, digital democracy, international economic law, and strategies for challenging Big Tech hegemony. Mentored by resource persons from leading organizations and academia, they built a collective vision for digital justice, linking policy, advocacy, and grassroots action.
The institute also emphasized participant-driven learning, with participant-led spaces fostering cross-sectoral exchanges and shared learning. The immersive residential setting, combined with local cultural experiences, deepened interpersonal connections, creating a strong foundation for ongoing collaboration.
As the institute concluded, participants carried forward key learnings, strengthened networks, and renewed energy to shape a more just and equitable digital future.
