Advocacy for a progressive national e-governance standards policy

IT for Change (ITfC) played an important role in campaigning efforts to bring to the Government of India's notice that the use of non-royalty-based open standards in e-governance are basic to ensuring people's right to information in a digital age.

As a part of advocacy efforts, ITfC worked with the National Campaign for People's Right to Information (NCPRI), a civil society group that has been prominent in the Right to Information movement in India and the Free and Open Source Software Community (FOSSCOM), an alliance of civil society organisations working towards the adoption of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in government and industry in India. In May 2010, along with other civil society organisations, IT for Change submitted comments on the Version 1.1 of the Draft Policy on 'Open Standards on e-Governance'. Read more on FOSSCOM.
