IT for Change attended the Asia rounds discussion held by Facebook’s Oversight Board, to issue a Policy Advisory Opinion regarding community guidelines restricting sharing of private residential information on Facebook. The session was held on 7th October virtually.
About the session: The Asia round of the meeting from the Oversight Board was part of their discussions to include diverse voices regarding the policy advisory opinion on what kinds of residential information would be considered private and liable to be removed. The Oversight Board, in June 2021, accepted a policy advisory opinion request from Facebook to decide on this issue. According to Facebook, this was a question that needed further assessment in order to balance issues of use of private residential information for journalistic and civic activism vis-a-vis forms of online hate speech including doxxing.
