Parminder Jeet Singh has been invited to take part at a working session organized by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation panel at the WTO Public Forum 2022. The session is titled “Democratic Technological Development and Overcoming the Digital Divide in the post-Covid recovery" and will be conducted on 27 September at 9.00 pm IST.

The "Années folles" of the 21st century are marked by enormous economic shocks throughout the world on the one hand, and a roaring digitalization of the advanced economies on the other hand. The scramble for data is in full swing, as data is the new raw material on which to build the digital transformation of economies, while the level of development of digital technologies and e-commerce capacities promises a prosperous future – for some. The so-called “digital divide” may deepen cleavages in international trade for decades to come. In this working session, participants will discuss how to shape a digital economic transformation that helps to establish a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive trading system for all.

Along with Parminder, Sofia Scasserra (associate researcher with the Transnational Institute); Ekaitz Cancela (journalist and researcher); and Aitor Montesa (the Head of the Digital Trade Sector in DG TRADE’s Services and Digital Trade Unit) will be speaking at the session. The discussion will be moderated by Helmut Scholz (Member of European Parliament).

The audio recording of the session is available here.
