IT for Change, in collaboration with TISS, Oxfam India, and the National Coalition on Education Emergency, will be organizing a webinar discussing, ‘Is EdTech a Danger to Education?’ The webinar will be held on 23 December at 11 AM IST.

The education sector has been experiencing a ‘digital push’ for a while now, but this has accelerated in the aftermath of the pandemic and the emphasis laid on EdTech in NEP 20. The ‘digital push’ also arises from significant funding in Tech platforms in all sectors, including education. The advent of the current genre of education platforms necessitates a deeper understanding of the possibilities, benefits, and dangers of EdTech, as well as a critical evaluation of its role in supporting different aspects of teaching-learning, which is what this webinar aims to facilitate.

The webinar will begin with a keynote address from Gurumurthy Kasinathan, followed by a panel discussion. The speakers for the discussion include: Anjela Taneja, Oxfam International; and Binay Pathak, Lalit Narayan Mithila University. The session will be moderated by Noopur, Oxfam India.

The following reports will be discussed during the webinar:

  1. Digital Dollar? An exploratory study of the investments by IFC in the Indian educational technology sector
  2. Educational Technology in School Education in India
