In March 2025, the Trump Administration initiated a series of enquiries through the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on unfair and non-reciprocal trade practices in countries currently trading with the United States. The intent of the query is to slap tariffs on countries that are currently not permitting trade on terms that favour US transnational corporations. Our submission defended India's policy space to regulate US Big Tech entering its domestic markets, arguing parallels between Indian regulation and that in the US. We argue that India can't be penalized for asserting its legitimate policy sovereignty to protect citizens and strategic economic interests in the digital economy.
