Ahead of the 114th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) 2026 in Geneva, where global standards for decent work in the platform economy were being negotiated, we joined more than 30 workers’ organizations and civil society allies, including WIEGO - Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing, Equidem, and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), in putting forth a joint statement.
Signed by a global coalition of over 30 worker organizations, trade unions, and civil society groups, this joint statement calls on the International Labour Organization to strengthen its proposed Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy. It urges the Convention to apply to all platform workers, regardless of employment status, and to include gender-responsive protections, occupational safety and health measures, fair compensation for all working time, transparency in algorithmic management and data governance, protections against shifting work-related costs onto workers, and guarantees for worker consultation and collective bargaining rights.
