Joint Statement on the ILO Convention on decent work in the platform economy

Ahead of the 114th International Labour Conference 2026, we joined Privacy International, TEDIC, The Workers' Observatory, and other allies in issuing a collective civil society declaration on the ILO’s Blue Report, which contains the draft Convention and the Recommendation on Decent Work in the Platform Economy. The declaration identifies critical gaps in the draft texts, including:

  1. The absence of binding limits on pervasive data extraction and worker surveillance.
  2. Weak obligations on platforms to provide transparency, explanation, and avenues for contestation in algorithmically mediated work environments.
  3. Insufficient rights for workers to access information about, challenge, and seek remedy for algorithmic decisions affecting their livelihoods.
