Third World Network (TWN) and IT for Change
India and the US are close to signing a limited trade deal that includes some key agricultural and dairy products, medical devices and some issues of digital trade. India hopes to secure a continuation of GSP concessions and a possible reversal of punitive tariff hikes by the US. However, a more ambitious Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is also being discussed between the two countries and talks may be launched soon.
This webinar was the first of a series on the proposed India-US trade deals, co-organized by IT for Change and Third World Network (TWN). This session discussed the implications of the deal for India and its people, looking at issues on the table and analysing expected impacts.
The speakers at the webinar included:
- Biswajit Dhar (JNU)
- Abhijit Das (CWTOS)
- Leena Menghaney (MSF)
- Ashwani Mahajan (SJM)
- Afsar Jafri (GRAIN).
The session was introduced by Ranja Sengupta from TWN and moderated by IT for Change's Parminder Jeet Singh.
