Leveraging the Digital Transformation for Decent Work in the Global South

Anita Gurumurthy took part in a webinar on “Leveraging the Digital Transformation for Decent Work in the Global South” organized by the International Training Centre, ILO. The webinar was conducted on October 10 at 12.30 pm IST.

The session focused on the opportunities and challenges that the digital economy brings about for countries of the Global South. The session broadly explored the following questions:

• How is digitalization playing out in the Global South? What are the opportunities in terms of employment and decent work?
• What are the risks/challenges connected with digitalization and the digital economy in the Global South?
• Is digitalization ‘democratizing’ opportunities for all in the Global South? What are the current gaps in terms of inclusivity in the digital economy? Which groups are most at risk of being left behind?
• How can national policy frameworks enable inclusive and equitable participation all society’s groups in digitalized marketplaces?
