Parminder Jeet Singh participated in a workshop on ‘Enabling Data Sharing Ecosystem: Challenges and Expectations from Data Management Office (DMO)’ on 18 January 2023. The workshop was organized by Wadhwani Foundation and Chase India in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) released the draft 'India Data Accessibility and Use Policy’ in February, 2022 which was further revised and a draft National ‘Data Governance Framework Policy (NDGFP)’ was published in May 2022 which aims to build upon the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy (NDSAP), 2012 and increase access to government data by leveraging emerging technologies. The draft NDGFP is focused on the sharing of non-personal data collected by the government through the India Datasets Program. The policy proposes a new framework for the governance of citizens’ data through the creation of the Data Management Office (DMO) whose objective is to create a large repository of Indian datasets and set standardized guidelines, rules, and standards for the collection, processing, storage, access, and use of Government data.

During the workshop, speakers deliberated on the composition and governing structure of DMO, mechanisms for oversight of NDGFP, and processes to ensure seamless government-to-government data-
sharing.
