Anita Gurumurthy took part in a 'Conference on Agriculture, Land and Forests’, held by Focus on the Global South from 18-19 February 2023 in New Delhi.
The conference aimed to focus on the following key issues:
- Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of government policies linked to agriculture, food, land, forestry, digitalization, and climate in responding to the needs of small-scale food producers, workers, Adivasis, and forest dwellers.
- Critically examine global developments that have a bearing on these sectors, especially the recent negotiations at international institutions such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The conference also assessed how multilateralism is being undermined through ‘multistakeholderism’ and through exclusive forums such as the G20 and Indo Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). India’s current rush to sign a number of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) was also scrutinized.
