Anita Gurumurthy was on the keynote panel of the 2023 Social Forum organized by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner on 2 November 2023 in Geneva. The theme of the Forum was, ‘The contribution of science, technology and innovation (STI) to the promotion of human rights, including in the context of post-pandemic recovery.’
In her contribution, Anita addressed the challenges of inequality in the digital age, highlighting the widening gap between the Global North and Global South vis-à-vis data and AI. Furthermore, underscoring the need for a system-wide change to steer digital technologies in favor of equity, peace, and international solidarity, she made four submissions, ranging from grounding AI regulation in human rights to decolonizing the data epoch.
