14th International Forum of NGOs & UNESCO
Merrin Muhammed Ashraf took part in a panel discussion titled, 'The Only Way is Ethics', organized as a part of 14th International Forum of NGOs in Official Partnership with UNESCO on 14 December 2023. Bringing together speakers from Australia, Czechia, France, and India, the panel focused on the need for an ethical approach to the use and regulation of Artificial Intelligence.
In her intervention, Merrin highlighted some missing pieces in the mainstream discourse on AI ethics and spoke about what must be done to move AI ethics from rhetorics and techno solutionism towards actually contending with the unequal and unfair international development context so that AI helps in bridging and not widening the socio-economic inequality within and between countries. Her presentation can be found here.
Besides Merrin, Janice Richardson (Advisory Board member of SnapChat, Meta and Twitter, and Representative of Ins!ght SA education hub), Claude Vivier Le Got (President of the Federation for European Education), Ahmet-Murat Kilic (Head of the Digital Transformation and E-learning Unit of the Education Department of the Council of Europe), and Ondřej Hrách (AI educator at Charles University and PromethistAI writer) took part in the discussion.
