Anita Gurumurthy, Executive Director, IT for Change, was invited by UNU-IIGH and Third World Network to speak at their symposium titled "Strengthening Global Health Governance: Defending the Public Interest and Holding Powerful Private Actors Accountable." Held on 22 April 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, this event laid bare the structural roots of inequalities and interrogated the influence of commercial interests in global health.
Anita was part of the panel on "Inequality, neoliberalism and the world of perma- and poly-crisis." The other speakers on this panel included Ron Labonte, University of Ottawa and People's Health Movement and Jasodhara Dasgupta.
Through this symposium, health professionals, researchers, and civil society representatives explored how the provision of public goods has been increasingly shaped by financial markets and powerful private actors with unmitigated conflicts of interest.
