IT for Change's Endorsement of the Tech Global Institute WSIS statement

IT for Change endorses the joint statement on the WSIS+20 review from Global South organizations, led by the Tech Global Institute.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) articulated a vision for people-centered, development-driven, and inclusive digital governance. Yet today, that vision is increasingly undermined by deepening power asymmetries and geopolitical divides that continue to sideline the Global South from key decision-making spaces.

The WSIS+20 review process must reaffirm the value of inclusive, democratic, and rights-respecting digital governance, firmly anchored in international human rights law, while adapting to contemporary challenges.

The statement reaffirms the enduring value of the WSIS process and calls for its revitalization and reinforcement, and presents the following demands:
1. Reaffirm WSIS as the foundation of global digital governance
2. Strengthen and institutionalize the Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
3. Guarantee meaningful inclusion and representation
4. Update WSIS Action Lines to address emerging challenges
5. Build a digital economy that serves the public good
6. Align WSIS+20 Outcomes with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda
