Anita Gurumurthy gave a talk titled ‘Understanding the Digital Economy at the Covid Conjuncture’, as part of a one-month, international webinar series on Covid-19 and its impact on women. This series was a collaborative effort between the Department of Women’s Studies, University of Calicut and the Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS). It focused on how the global Covid-19 pandemic has affected women in the social, cultural, legal, political, economic and digital realm.

Anita spoke about the ways in which the changes to the digital foundations of economic production systems during the pandemic are impacting women’s lives and livelihoods, how economically marginalized women are losing out due to the inaccessibility of technology and by being made forcibly irrelevant, and about the changes required for labor rights and laws to better protect such women.
