Parminder Jeet Singh will be a panelist for a discussion about 'Unpacking Community Consent and Collective Models for Data Stewardship', facilitated by Astha Kapoor. This panel, hosted by Aapti Institute, is part of their discussion series titled 'Data Deliberations'.
The idea of community ownership and governance of data and the decisions around it need to be
reworked to bring offline support systems and voice to online action. This can help restructure some of the injustices of the data economy, and lead to more decentralised ideas of power and control. This panel will discuss decentralised systems of data governance through community action, and draw lessons for reimagining and renegotiating data rights.
The other participants in this discussion include:
- Jasmine McNealy, Associate Professor, Department of Telecommunication, College of Journalism and Communications, University of Florida
- Anouk Ruhaak, Mozilla Fellow associated with Algorithm Watch
