On 3 June 2025, the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) held a regional webinar as part of its WSIS+20 awareness series. Organized by the APrIGF WSIS+20 Working Group, this session was the third in a series of webinars aimed at demystifying the WSIS+20 review process and encouraging inclusive stakeholder engagement from across the Asia Pacific region.

The session brought together speakers from civil society, government, and the technical community to reflect on the legacy and future of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and its Action Lines.

Anita Gurumurthy highlighted the importance of public finance in building and sustaining digital public infrastructure and equitable data governance. She emphasized the vital role of civil society as a ‘North Star’ for justice and equity in global digital governance and called for stronger institutional support for rights-based, democratic digital futures.

Other speakers included:

  •     Sorina Teleanu, who provided historical context on WSIS and stressed the need for critical reflection on its achievements

  •     William Lee, who spoke on the importance of transparent, inclusive policymaking and shared lessons from Australia

  •     Jennifer Chung, who underscored the role of the technical community in upholding internet interoperability and contributing to multistakeholder processes

This session contributed to regional preparation ahead of the WSIS+20 review in Geneva, aiming to equip Asia Pacific stakeholders to engage meaningfully in global digital governance dialogues.
