The workshop was organised by the WSIS Gender Caucus, IT for Change, UNDP Asia Pacific Gender Mainstreaming Programme, and the UNDP Asia Pacific Development Information Programme, in partnership with IDRC and UNIFEM South Asia in Bangkok (Thailand) on 31 October 2001.
The event was focused on gender in the information society, connecting it to the broader debates on global policy negotiations and global governance and how gender plays out in these debates. It was geared towards taking stock of the complex relationship between gender and ICTs, learning from experiences in different parts of the Asia Pacific. It also critically evaluated how global forums such as the World Summit on the Information Society have framed issues related to gender and ICTs.
