Global Digital Health Network, Transform Health

From December 6-8, 2021, the Global Digital Health Network convened the Global Digital Health Forum 2021 as a global industry networking and relationship-building opportunity for technology vendors, donors, researchers, government representatives, and implementing organizations working in low- and middle-income countries to advance public health outcomes to come together and share best practices, discuss emerging innovations, and network with each other.

Parminder Singh was a panelist in a session organized by Transform Health at the Global Digital Health Forum 2021 on 6th December, 2021.

The panel on Filling the Governance Gap : Global Health Data Governance Principles was convened in lieu of its recently released its draft Health Data Governance Principles. This is the first set of global health data principles which goes beyond the general pitch of privacy and security to primarily focus on health equity.

Transform Health’s Data Policy Circle, co-chaired by Parminder Singh is stewarding the development  of such principles through an inclusive and participatory process thanks to the support of several multi-sectoral partners including PATH; AeHIN; BID Learning Network; the Lancet/FT Commission on Governing Health Futures 2030; Mwan Events; RECAINSA;  Wilton Park; Young Experts: Tech 4 Health; and Fondation Botnar. The Principles will be an important step towards the development of a global health data governance framework.

In this session, these principles were presented in order to discuss how they can contribute to and shape the agenda around a global health data governance framework. Participants were also given the opportunity to contribute to plans for the endorsement, adoption and advocacy on the use of the Principles, as part of a collective effort to strengthen health data governance. The session provided insights into the consultative model that was used in developing the Principles, which could serve as key learning for organizations wishing to embark on developing or advocating for other digital health related initiatives.

Other panelists for the session were:

Joseline Carias, Network Manager-Central American Health Informatics Network

Dr. Beatrice Murage, Senior Manager (Global) at Philips and member of Transform Health’s Data Policy Circle

Vikas Dwivedi, Co-chair Health Data Collaborative Digital and Data Working Group

Craig Burgess, Unit Head of Data Coordination Governance and Partnerships in the Division for Data Analytics and Delivery at WHO
