Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) are at the heart of India’s development strategy, promising efficiency, scalability, and innovation in public service delivery. However, as DPIs gain prominence, it is crucial to ensure that they remain truly public—rooted in equity, inclusivity, and ethical governance.
On January 10, 2025, IT for Change hosted a roundtable in Bengaluru on ‘Inclusive Digital Transformation – The DPI Approach and Beyond’. The event brought together tech policy researchers, development practitioners, digital rights advocates, progressive technologists, and social entrepreneurs to critically examine the future of DPIs. Through an open and interactive dialogue, participants explored policy and programmatic pathways for techno-social innovation that prioritizes public interest.
This discussion also ties into IT for Change’s ongoing research with the University of Western Australia on ‘Effective Ethical Frameworks for the State as an Enabler of Innovation’, which delves into the ethical tensions shaping India’s digital policy landscape.
