The Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) is a regional network of 264 civil society organisations and individual members in 31 countries in the Asia Pacific region. It works towards the realisation of the right to education and promoting transformative education and lifelong learning for all.
At this event organized by the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), Gurumurthy Kasinathan, Director and Lead - Public EdTech, delivered an address on ‘Feminist Perspectives on the Political Economy of AI and the Digital Economy’.
Gurumurthy spoke about how social media platforms are increasingly functioning as de facto education systems, shaping people’s thinking in ways that can be deeply harmful to society. Referring to IT for Change’s pilot work on using AI for language education in government schools, as well as its community-based work in Mysuru, he underscored the need to explore further the design and implementation of social media platforms for public good that can support adult education and empowerment.
