The annual conference of the Majlis Legal Centre - Negotiating Spaces - chose to analyse the various facets, impacts and internal contradictions of on-line spaces, through a gender lens. Anita Gurumurthy and Nandini Chami represented IT for Change at the conference.
Anita made a presentation on ‘What's happening today to women's rights and citizenship?’, focusing on the network- data complex and its implications for women’s citizenship. Nandini made a presentation on ‘Reading the content regulation debate in India: Questions on technology-mediated violence and the remit of the law’, raising key questions about the role of technological solutions in building a gender-inclusive online public sphere. This presentation built on IT for Change's ongoing research on identifying effective legal and institutional responses to technology-mediated VAW.
