The Regional Institute of English, South India (RIESI) and IT for Change (ITfC) have been collaborating since 2018 on several projects related to integration of digital technologies into English Language Teaching (ELT). In 2023-24, ITfC conducted sessions on ‘Krashens’ Hypotheses on Second Language Acquisition for participants in the courses conducted by RIESI such as the 30-day Certificate Course in English Language Teaching (CELT), Post-Graduate Diploma in English Language Teaching (PGDELT) and Diploma In English Communication (DIEC). Participants come from across the 5 states of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. These sessions were followed by workshops on creation of audio story resources by teachers to introduce storytelling based pedagogy in their classrooms. The sessions and workshops offer a valuable platform for primary and high school educators to engage in detailed discussions about contemporary issues in ELT, the role of technology in language learning, and strategies for addressing diverse learner needs. They provide an opportunity for teachers to explore and reflect on the specific contexts in which they work, as well as the unique challenges they face in their classrooms. They also participate in collaborative brainstorming and share innovative ideas on how to effectively integrate theories of second language acquisition into their teaching practices. These interactions with teachers also provide our team with a crucial opportunity to learn and grow. We gather valuable insights which can help improve all our programs. Through this collaboration with RIESI, ITfC engaged with over 750 educators in 2023-24.
