Prakriye and Hosa Hejje Hosa Dishe are our two field projects leveraging digital technologies towards empowering women and girls from marginalized contexts.
With a history of 20+ years, the Prakriye project has been working with women and girls across rural Mysuru. Through women-led community information centres, and forums, these initiatives work towards enhancing women’s access to social welfare, building dialogue around patriarchy, and improving women’s public participation. Prakriye also works with adolescent girls from rural communities through media-based empowerment programs.
Hosa Hejje Hosa Dishe (‘A New Step in a New Direction’) has been creating safe spaces for adolescent girls within government and government-aided schools across Karnataka. In collaboration with school teachers, the project builds dialogues around the changes in adolescence, gender, identity, and online and offline safety. Hosa Hejje also leverages social media and diverse multimedia strategies to build engaging dialogue with the girls as they transition into adulthood.
As part of IT for Change's 25th anniversary celebrations, the photo exhibition featured both projects capturing two decades of digital ecosystem building—from women-led information centers to safe spaces within schools that put women and girls at the heart of technology.
