Anita Gurumurthy, Executive Director, IT for Change, was invited to deliver a keynote address at the Seventh International Conference on Communities and Technologies (C&T 2015), hosted from 27-30 June, by the University of Limerick, Ireland and co-sponsored by the Journal of Community Informatics.

Anita Gurumurthy participated in three sessions at the International Forum on Gender, Media, ICTs and Journalism: 20 years after the Beijing Platform for Action.

IT for Change was at the 18th annual session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development . We delivered the following intervention during the plenary discussion reviewing the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). This meeting of the Commission was supposed to input into the WSIS plus 10 review to be taken up in December, 2015, by the UN General Assembly.

The International Girls in ICT Day was organised by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Bangkok, in collaboration with UN Women and Intel, on 23 April, 2015. Ms. Anupama Suresh represented IT for Change at the event and shared her experiences of the project Making Women’s Voices and Votes Count.

Anita Gurumurthy was invited to speak at the international multistakeholder conference CONNECTing the Dots: Options for Future Action organised by UNESCO in Paris. The conference was held to discuss the first draft of the Comprehensive Study on Internet-related issues. The meeting proposed recommendations for responses to Internet-related issues in UNESCO’s fields of competence.

In September 2014, IT for Change and International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, jointly organised a Round Table in Bengaluru titled 'Inclusion in the network society – mapping development alternatives, forging research agendas'. The Round Table brought together 28 research scholars, development practitioners and thinkers, interested in the theoretical and policy aspects of equity, inclusion and participation in the 'ICTs and development' domain, for three days of intense debate and dialogue.

It is an honour to be here and to speak on this panel.

I would like to talk about geographies of the network society that are excluded – geographies typically characterised as 'bottom of the pyramid' by non-inhabitants – geographies that are home to those who we are told are waiting to be empowered by the telecoms.

These are communities in the margins, who matter all too little to the networks of value.

IAMCR's 2014 took place in Hyderabad, India from 15th-19th July. The conference theme was Region as Frame: Politics, Presence, Practice. Anita Gurumurthy was invited to be a part of the panel on 'Governing Digital Spaces: Issues of Access, Freedom and Privacy'.
